Strengthening Its Position in the Construction Market, Batara Group Expands Portfolio with High-Quality Building Solutions

As it marks its 53rd anniversary, PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group) is embarking on a business transformation initiative aimed at refreshing its corporate identity and strengthening its market presence.

Since 1972, Batara Group has been recognized as a trusted supplier and distributor of premium building material brands in Indonesia.

Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group, stated that as one of Indonesia’s pioneering building material distributors, the company remains committed to delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service.

Through consistent innovation and a strong focus on product excellence, Batara Group has successfully maintained its competitiveness in an increasingly dynamic marketplace.

According to Daniel, long-term success in the building materials industry requires not only superior product quality and strong market competitiveness, but also the ability to adapt to evolving market demands and a younger, more dynamic customer base.

"Since its inception, Batara Group was founded by the first generation with a clear commitment—to provide communities with reliable, high-quality building materials," Daniel said in a recent statement.

Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, added that the company’s 53rd anniversary serves as an important milestone for business transformation and brand revitalization.

The initiative is also intended to introduce Batara’s diverse portfolio of building material brands to a broader market as part of the company’s ongoing business development strategy.

"To support our growth initiatives in 2025, we are implementing a range of improvements across both internal and external operations, including product development, technology adoption, marketing strategies, human capital development, and the expansion of our distribution network," Reissa explained.

Batara Group manages several premium brands that have been established in the Indonesian market for more than two decades, including Casali and Wisproof waterproofing membranes, Polyshield and Polynum roof insulation systems, and Ozvent ventilation turbines.

The company’s portfolio also includes Viscous sealants, Duorock mineral wool insulation, and Smartcubic phenolic boards.

These brands were showcased at IndoBuildTech (IBT) 2025, one of Indonesia’s leading exhibitions for the construction, interior, furniture, and building industries.

During the exhibition, held from July 2–6, 2025, at Hall 8 of ICE BSD, Batara Group presented a comprehensive range of construction solutions highlighting product diversification, innovation, and performance advantages.

Visitors had the opportunity to experience firsthand a variety of premium building materials offered under Batara’s portfolio.

"Our participation in IndoBuildTech reflects Batara Group’s long-term commitment to the Indonesian market and provides an important platform to engage directly with industry professionals, stakeholders, and end users," Daniel said.

"Through our active participation in this exhibition, we aim to further strengthen Batara Group’s position as an innovative building solutions provider, facilitate knowledge exchange, and build stronger relationships with key stakeholders across the industry," he added.

Expanding Access to Eastern Indonesia

Daniel Surya Tandi, representing the second generation of Batara Group leadership, shared that the company’s journey began with a small building materials store established by his father, Longtjing Tandi.

The business originated as Toko Batara, a modest building materials shop located on Jalan Pinangsia in Central Jakarta.

"The store started as a small family business. Over time, it gained the trust of customers and contractors alike, allowing it to grow steadily," Daniel recalled.

As the business expanded, Longtjing Tandi went on to establish Thai Gypsum, a gypsum board manufacturing company that was later acquired by a global corporation based in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Toko Batara continues to operate today, while the business has evolved into Batara Surya Semesta, focusing on the distribution of high-quality imported building materials.

"Today, Batara Group operates distribution centers across Greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) as well as Semarang, Central Java, serving customers throughout Indonesia," Reissa noted.

Having built a strong reputation since 1972, Batara Group remains optimistic about Indonesia’s economic growth prospects in 2025.

This optimism has driven the company to continue expanding its distribution network, including plans to establish new distribution hubs in Surabaya, East Java, and Bali.

The expansion forms part of Batara Group’s strategic initiative to strengthen building material distribution across Eastern Indonesia while reinforcing its nationwide network and supporting the country’s infrastructure and development agenda.

"Equitable development is not only about delivering quality products but also ensuring equal access across all regions. Through the addition of a new distribution center in Surabaya in the near future, we aim to provide reliable and efficient access to high-quality building materials for customers in Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, in addition to East Java," Reissa explained.

Batara Group’s products are widely used in projects developed by leading property and construction companies.

Its solutions have been specified in a broad range of developments, including high-rise buildings, landed residential projects, industrial facilities, office buildings, hospitals, and other commercial developments. The majority of these projects are located across Greater Jakarta and major cities throughout Java, including Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Surabaya, as well as regions outside Java such as Lampung, Balikpapan, and Makassar.

The company serves both the project and retail segments, with products available through modern retail channels such as Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan.

Currently, the project segment remains the largest contributor to demand.

"Until 2024, our sales were still predominantly driven by project business, as we supplied major developments from leading developers such as Paramount Land, Metland, and Ciputra Group. Approximately 65% of our sales came from project-based customers, while the remaining 35% came from retail channels. In 2025, we expect a more balanced contribution between the two segments as our presence in the retail market continues to expand," Reissa concluded.
