Aluminum Foil for Metal Tile Roofs

For buildings with concrete roof slabs, aluminum foil insulation is typically installed as part of the ceiling system beneath the slab rather than directly against the concrete surface. This approach allows the reflective layer to help reduce radiant heat reaching the occupied space below.

Differences in Installation Approach
For roofs with exposed framing, such as metal tile and Spandek roofing, aluminum foil is generally installed directly onto the roof framing (strip battens) using screws or roofing nails. The overlapping sections of aluminum foil are then sealed with aluminum foil tape to help close gaps along the overlaps and maintain continuity of the reflective insulation layer.
For concrete roof slabs, aluminum foil is more commonly installed onto the suspended ceiling frame, as concrete roof slabs do not have the same roof cavity or framing system typically found beneath pitched roofs.
