How Batara Group Strengthens Its Position in Indonesia’s Building Materials Market

PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group) is expanding its distribution footprint into Eastern Indonesia, with new distribution hubs planned for Surabaya and Bali this year.

According to Batara Group Commercial Director Reissa Siregar, the expansion is part of the company’s strategic initiative to strengthen building materials distribution across Eastern Indonesia while further reinforcing its nationwide network.

The move also reflects Batara Group’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s ongoing infrastructure and development agenda. Currently, the company operates distribution centers across Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Semarang, serving customers throughout the country.

"Equitable development is not only about quality, but also about ensuring equal access across all regions. Through the addition of a new distribution center in Surabaya in the near future, we aim to provide reliable and efficient access to high-quality building materials for customers in Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, in addition to East Java," Reissa said.

Batara Group’s products are widely specified in projects developed by leading property and construction companies. Its solutions are commonly used in high-rise developments, landed residential projects, industrial facilities, office buildings, hospitals, and other commercial developments.

The company’s strongest project presence remains in Greater Jakarta and major cities across Java, including Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Surabaya, as well as key regional markets such as Lampung, Balikpapan, and Makassar.

In addition to serving the project segment, Batara Group also targets the retail market through modern building materials retail chains, including Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan.

"Until 2024, our business was still predominantly project-driven, as we supplied a number of large-scale developments. Approximately 65% of our sales came from the project segment, while the remaining 35% came from retail. This year, however, the contribution could become more balanced as our products are now available through a broader network of retail outlets," Reissa explained.

President Director Daniel Surya Tandi emphasized that the property and construction sectors are closely interconnected and mutually dependent. Property development relies heavily on the construction industry, which ultimately delivers the built environment.

According to Daniel, the construction ecosystem extends beyond contractors, consultants, and manufacturers. Building materials distributors also play a critical role as a key component of the construction supply chain.

"Distributors contribute to making construction projects more efficient and effective, helping ensure that developments are delivered with consistent quality, long-term value, and sustainability," he said.

Batara Group has been supplying building materials to the Indonesian market since 1972. The company traces its origins to a small building materials store established by Longtjing Tandi on Jalan Pinangsia in Central Jakarta.

"To remain competitive and succeed in the building materials industry, companies must offer superior quality, maintain strong competitiveness, and continuously adapt to an increasingly modern, dynamic, and evolving market," Daniel added.

As part of its growth strategy, Batara Group is currently undergoing a business transformation initiative that includes a corporate rebranding effort and broader market introduction of its proprietary building materials brands.

The company is implementing a range of improvements across both internal and external operations, including product innovation, technology adoption, marketing strategy enhancement, human capital development, and the expansion of its distribution network.

Daniel noted that quality, safety, and comfort are becoming increasingly important considerations for Indonesian consumers, particularly within the growing upper-middle and premium market segments.

At IndoBuildTech (IBT) 2025, held at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Batara Group showcased a comprehensive portfolio of construction solutions highlighting innovation, product diversification, and performance advantages.

Featured products included Casali and Wisproof waterproofing membranes, Polyshield and Polynum roof insulation systems, Ozvent ventilation turbines, Viscous sealants, Duorock mineral wool insulation, and Smartcubic phenolic boards.

Batara Group’s participation at IndoBuildTech reflects the company’s continued commitment to the Indonesian market while providing an important platform to engage directly with industry professionals, business partners, stakeholders, and end users.
