Construction Industry and Building Materials Supply Chain Remain Key Drivers of Property Development
The close relationship between the construction and property sectors continues to play a vital role in Indonesia’s development landscape. The construction industry remains a fundamental pillar of property development, involving not only contractors and consultants but also building materials distributors, which serve as critical links within the construction supply chain.
According to Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group, the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of construction projects are highly dependent on strong collaboration among industry stakeholders and reliable building materials suppliers.
"Delivering high-quality and sustainable construction projects requires effective processes and a well-managed supply chain. The synergy between construction professionals and building materials providers is essential to achieving these outcomes," Daniel said on Friday (July 4, 2025).
During the exhibition, Batara Group showcased a range of building solutions from several established brands that have been serving the Indonesian market for more than two decades, including CASALI, WISPROOF, POLYSHIELD, and SMARTCUBIC. The event provided an important platform for the company to expand its market reach and engage directly with industry professionals and stakeholders.
Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, explained that the company is currently undergoing a business transformation aimed at strengthening brand presence and expanding customer engagement across broader market segments.
"We continue to invest in product development, technology, human capital, and distribution strategies to support our long-term growth and strengthen our market position," Reissa said.
Founded in 1972, Batara Group traces its roots to a small building materials store in the Pinangsia district of Jakarta. Its founder, Longtjing Tandi, later established a gypsum board manufacturing business before the company evolved into one of Indonesia’s leading suppliers of imported building materials.
Reissa added that Batara Group currently operates distribution centers throughout the Greater Jakarta area and Semarang, with plans to expand into Surabaya and Bali. These new locations are expected to enhance service coverage across Eastern Indonesia, including Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
"We are committed to ensuring broader access to quality building materials, particularly in regions experiencing rapid infrastructure and property development," she explained.
Batara Group’s products are widely used across a variety of construction sectors, including high-rise developments, residential housing projects, industrial facilities, hospitals, office buildings, and other public infrastructure projects.
The company serves both the project and retail markets, although project-based sales currently account for the majority of revenue.
"In 2024, approximately 65% of our sales were generated from major construction projects. Moving forward, we aim to achieve a more balanced contribution between the project and retail segments as our distribution network continues to expand," Reissa concluded.
