Can a Turbine Ventilator Make Your Home Cooler? Here’s the Reality

When the weather is hot, conditions inside the house can become uncomfortable. To overcome this, some homeowners usually use fans, air conditioners (AC), or other electronic devices that make the room cooler.

However, electronic devices are not the only way to reduce room temperature. Another solution is the use of a turbine ventilator.

A turbine ventilator is a roof ventilation system that utilizes wind power to cool a room. It works by removing hot air from the building.

The system works by drawing hot air upward and expelling it through the rotation of turbine blades that are driven by the wind.

Can a Turbine Ventilator Be Used in a Minimalist Home?

However, many people have concerns about the shape and size of this device. This is because it is commonly used in large factories. Its dome-like appearance makes many people think twice about installing it.

Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, explained during IndoBuildTech 2025 in BSD, Tangerang, that turbine ventilators can indeed be used in minimalist homes.

“This turbine ventilator can reduce indoor temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, and it is more economical because it does not require electricity,” said Reissa.

Use in Residential Homes

Furthermore, she explained that for smaller homes, homeowners can choose a smaller turbine ventilator size, namely 14 inches. With this size, the turbine can cover up to 100 square meters.

One of Batara Group’s staff members explained that the device can also be installed in existing homes.

“The house will first be surveyed before determining where the turbine ventilator can be installed. Usually, the kitchen is the most common installation location,” he explained.

Although it does not work like an air conditioner that directly cools the room, the device can reduce humidity levels indoors. A humid room tends to feel stuffier and less comfortable. The turbine ventilator helps remove excess moisture, making the room feel cooler and more comfortable.

“For a more attractive appearance that doesn’t look industrial, this device can be painted using aluminum paint or metal paint. If the roof is red, it can be painted in the same color to match the homeowner’s preference,” Reissa concluded.
