Batara Group’s Transformation into a Premium Building Materials Distribution Company
Property development cannot be separated from the construction industry. At the same time, the construction industry is highly dependent on the supply of building materials from distributors.
The ability of construction companies to develop quality properties efficiently and sustainably depends greatly on having access to the right, high-quality building materials supplied by distributors.
This has long been recognized by PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group), which, since its early days as PD Batara in 1972, has been supplying a variety of quality building materials in Indonesia.

“As one of the pioneer building materials distributors, Batara Group has been committed from the very beginning to providing quality products with excellent service, while continuously adapting to market developments,” said Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group, during a media gathering at the IndoBuildTech building materials exhibition at ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Wednesday (July 2, 2025).
Batara Group opened a booth in Hall 8 at the annual building materials, furniture, interior, and construction exhibition, which took place from July 2–6, 2025.
Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, added that in its 53rd year, Batara Group is undertaking a business transformation by enhancing its corporate image while introducing its premium building materials portfolio to a broader audience.
“We are carrying out various improvements on both internal and external fronts, including product development, technology, marketing strategies, human capital, and the expansion of distribution channels,” she said.
Reissa noted that Batara Group understands that safety and comfort are important considerations for the market, particularly for the upper-middle and premium segments.
For this reason, for more than 20 years Batara Group has been marketing products from premium brands such as Casali and Wisproof waterproofing membranes, Polyshield and Polynum roof insulation, and Ozvent ventilation turbines.
The company also offers several other brands, including Viscous sealant adhesives, Duorock mineral wool insulation, and Smartcubic phenolic boards. These premium products form part of the Batara Home Brands portfolio.
In addition, Batara Group serves as an authorized distributor for a number of products, including A Plus gypsum boards, Lysaght light steel framing, Onduline eco-friendly roofing, Hunter Douglas window coverings and architectural products, and many others.
Daniel stated that all Batara Group brands were showcased at IndoBuildTech 2025 to present the company’s comprehensive range of construction solutions to a wider audience.
“This exhibition provides us with an opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals, stakeholders, and consumers (retail customers),” explained Daniel, the son of Longtjing Tandi, the founder of Batara Group.
Batara Group began when Longtjing established the Batara building materials store on Pinangsia Street, Central Jakarta. The small store gradually became known among contractors as a supplier of quality imported building materials, enabling the business to grow significantly before eventually transforming into Batara Surya Semesta.
“Currently, Batara Group operates distribution points across Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Greater Jakarta), and Semarang (Central Java), serving customers throughout Indonesia,” said Reissa.
Next year, Batara Group plans to open two new distribution centers in Surabaya, East Java, and Bali to better serve the rapidly growing markets in Eastern Indonesia.
Today, most of the building materials distributed by Batara Group are used in property development projects, including high-rise buildings, landed housing developments, industrial facilities, office buildings, and hospitals.
The majority of these projects are located in Greater Jakarta and cities across Java, such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Surabaya, as well as outside Java in regions such as Lampung, Balikpapan, and Makassar. Retail sales are also supported through modern retail channels such as Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan.
“Until last year, Batara Group’s sales were still dominated by project-based business, accounting for around 65 percent, including projects by Paramount Land, Metland, and Ciputra Group. This year, the composition could reach 50:50 between projects and retail because we have become increasingly active in expanding our presence in retail stores,” Reissa concluded.
