Batara Group’s Transformation as a Building Materials Distribution Company Through Product Diversification and Quality Solutions
In the closely interconnected property and construction industries, the role of building materials distributors is highly essential. PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group) has been an important part of this industry’s supply chain since 1972. With more than five decades of experience, the company is now undergoing a major transformation to strengthen its position in the market through product diversification and service innovation.
“As one of the pioneer building materials distributors in Indonesia, Batara Group is committed to providing quality products and excellent service,” said Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group, during a press conference at IndoBuildTech 2025 on Wednesday (July 2).
Daniel explained that Batara Group’s competitive advantage lies in product quality, innovation, and its ability to adapt to an increasingly modern and dynamic market. This transformation is driven by the founding generation’s commitment to meeting the public’s need for high-quality building materials.
Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, added that at the age of 53, the company is strengthening its identity as a comprehensive building materials solutions provider, offering support from product selection through after-sales service.
“We are implementing various improvements, both internally and externally, including product development, technology, marketing strategies, human resources, and the expansion of distribution channels,” said Reissa.
In response to the growing wellness living trend and the increasing demand among upper-middle-class consumers for quality properties, Batara Group offers several premium brands, including CASALI and WISPROOF for waterproofing membranes, POLYSHIELD and POLYNUM for roof insulation, and OZVENT for ventilation systems. Other brands include VISCOUS (sealants), DUOROCK (mineral wool), and SMARTCUBIC (phenolic boards).
Batara’s flagship products were showcased at IndoBuildTech (IBT) 2025, held at Hall 8, ICE BSD, from July 2–6, 2025. Through its participation in the exhibition, Batara Group reaffirmed its commitment to the Indonesian market, expanded its business network, and strengthened collaboration with industry stakeholders.
“This exhibition serves as a strategic opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals and consumers,” said Daniel.
Expanding Distribution into Eastern Indonesia
Batara Group has a long history that began with a small store owned by Longtjing Tandi on Pinangsia Street, Central Jakarta. Over time, the business evolved into a nationwide distribution network. Daniel Surya Tandi, who now leads the company as a second-generation executive, explained that expansion efforts continue to be carried out gradually.
Currently, Batara Group operates in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) and Semarang, and will soon open new distribution points in Surabaya and Bali. This initiative aims to strengthen distribution across Eastern Indonesia, including Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
“Balanced development must be supported by a reliable and efficient building materials distribution network. We want to be part of accelerating national development,” said Reissa.
Batara Group’s products have been used in various major projects, including developments by Paramount Land, Metland, and Ciputra Group. The company’s market segment is divided between project-based and retail sales, with approximately 65% currently coming from projects. However, in 2025, the company aims to achieve a more balanced composition as it expands into retail outlets such as Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan.
“We remain optimistic about national economic growth and will continue expanding access to quality products across more regions,” Reissa concluded.
