Batara Group Expands Building Materials Distribution Across Eastern Indonesia
The construction industry involves not only contractors, consultants, and manufacturers, but is also influenced by the role of building materials distributors. One of Indonesia’s building materials suppliers is PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group).
This year, Batara Group is expanding its distribution reach into Eastern Indonesia, specifically to Surabaya and Bali. The expansion is part of the company’s strategic initiative to strengthen building materials distribution in Eastern Indonesia while reinforcing its nationwide distribution network.
Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, said that equitable development is not only about quality, but also about ensuring equal access across all regions.
"Through the addition of a distribution center in Surabaya in the near future, we aim to provide a reliable and efficient supply of quality building materials to Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, in addition to East Java," she explained on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
According to her, the company’s building materials are primarily used in projects such as high-rise buildings, landed housing developments, industrial facilities, office buildings, and hospitals. Most projects are located in Greater Jakarta and cities across Java, including Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Surabaya, as well as outside Java in regions such as Lampung, Balikpapan, and Makassar.
The company targets both property projects and retail customers through modern retail channels, including Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan. Currently, demand from the project segment remains slightly higher than retail.
"Until 2024, our sales were still dominated by projects because we handled major developments. Around 65 percent of our sales came from projects, while the remainder came from retail. This year, the composition could become more balanced because our products are now available in a broader network of retail stores," she said.
Batara Group was established in 1972 by Longtjing Tandi. Starting from a small store on Jalan Pinangsia in Central Jakarta, the company now operates distribution centers across Greater Jakarta and Semarang.
Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group and a member of the second generation of leadership, explained that the company’s consistency and product innovation have enabled it to compete successfully in the market.
"To survive and succeed in the building materials supply industry, a company must have strong quality and competitiveness, while continuously adapting to an increasingly modern, younger, and dynamic market," Daniel said.
At IndoBuildTech (IBT) 2025, held at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Batara Group showcased construction solutions that highlight innovation through product diversification and performance advantages.
Among the products on display were CASALI and WISPROOF waterproofing membranes, POLYSHIELD and POLYNUM roof insulation products, OZVENT ventilation turbines, VISCOUS sealants, DUOROCK mineral wool insulation, and SMARTCUBIC phenolic boards.
According to Daniel, Batara Group’s participation in the exhibition reflects its commitment to the Indonesian market and provides an opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals, stakeholders, and consumers.
"Our active participation in this exhibition aims to strengthen our position as an innovative building materials solutions provider, exchange knowledge, and build close relationships with key stakeholders in the industry," Daniel said.
