54 Years of Building a Reputation, Batara Group Ready for Takeoff in the Building Materials Distribution Business
Property and construction are two sectors that are closely interconnected and influence one another. Property development cannot be separated from the construction industry, as it is the industry that produces property buildings. The construction industry involves not only contractors, consultants, and manufacturers, but is also influenced by the role of building materials distributors, which form an important part of the construction supply chain.
Given the central and vital role of the construction industry, it is important to pay attention to how this sector, along with all of its components—particularly distributors—can contribute to the delivery of property developments efficiently, effectively, and cost-effectively, ensuring that the resulting buildings are of high quality, beneficial, and sustainable. For this reason, suppliers continue to introduce various building material solutions to attract consumers, one of which is PT Batara Surya Semesta (Batara Group).
Batara Group has been supplying a range of quality building materials brands in Indonesia since 1972.
"As one of the pioneer building materials distributors in Indonesia, Batara Group is committed to providing quality products and excellent service," said Daniel Surya Tandi, President Director of Batara Group, during the Batara Group press conference at IndoBuildTech on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
According to Daniel, the company’s consistency and product innovation have enabled it to compete successfully in the market over the years. He believes that in order to survive and succeed in the building materials supply industry, companies must have strong quality and competitiveness while continuously adapting to an increasingly modern, younger, and dynamic market.
"Since the beginning, Batara Group was established by the first generation with the primary commitment of meeting the public’s need for quality, high-standard building materials and helping people realize their dream of creating safe, beautiful, and comfortable buildings," Daniel explained.
Reissa Siregar, Commercial Director of Batara Group, added that in its 53rd year, the company is undergoing a business transformation by refreshing its corporate image while introducing Batara-branded building materials products to a wider audience as part of its business development strategy. The goal is to increase public awareness of the complete solutions offered by Batara Group, from product selection to comprehensive customer service.
"To support our business development in 2025, we are implementing various improvements both internally and externally, including product development, technology, marketing strategies, human capital, and the expansion of our distribution network," said Reissa Siregar.
The company understands that quality, safety, and comfort are important considerations for Indonesian consumers, particularly those in the upper-middle and premium segments, whose numbers continue to grow. As a result, amid the growing wellness living trend, demand for high-quality property products is also increasing.
In response, Batara Group offers several premium brands that have been marketed for more than 20 years, including CASALI and WISPROOF waterproofing membranes, POLYSHIELD and POLYNUM roof insulation products, and OZVENT turbine ventilators. Other Batara Group brands include VISCOUS sealants, DUOROCK mineral wool insulation, and SMARTCUBIC phenolic boards.
All of Batara’s brands were showcased at IndoBuildTech (IBT) 2025, a prestigious exhibition focused on the construction, interior, furniture, and building industries. At the event, Batara Group presented a range of construction solutions highlighting product diversification and innovation at Hall 8, ICE BSD, from July 2–6, 2025. Visitors were able to experience and explore Batara’s high-quality building materials firsthand.
"Batara Group’s participation in IBT reflects our commitment to the Indonesian market and serves as a platform for direct engagement with industry professionals, stakeholders, and consumers. Our active participation in this exhibition is intended to strengthen Batara Group’s position as an innovative building materials solutions provider, facilitate knowledge sharing, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the industry," Daniel concluded.
Expanding the Market
The company’s track record spans more than five decades. Daniel Surya Tandi, representing the second generation of Batara Group leadership, recalled that Batara Group began as a small store established by his father, Longtjing Tandi, a successful entrepreneur with extensive experience in the building materials distribution sector.
The origins of Batara Group can be traced back to Toko Batara, a building materials store located on Jalan Pinangsia in Central Jakarta.
"At first, the store established by my parents was very small. Over time, it attracted many customers and became well known among contractors, allowing it to continue growing," Daniel recalled.
As the business developed, Longtjing Tandi established a gypsum board manufacturing company called Thai Gypsum, which was later acquired by a global company from Thailand. Meanwhile, Toko Batara continues to operate and serve customers today, while the business has expanded significantly under the Batara Surya Semesta banner, focusing on the distribution of quality imported building materials.
"To date, Batara Group has distribution centers in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Greater Jakarta), and Semarang (Central Java), serving customers throughout Indonesia," added Reissa.
Reissa stated that, as a company that has built its reputation since 1972, Batara Group remains optimistic about Indonesia’s economic growth in 2025. This optimism encourages the company to continue expanding its distribution network, including the opening of new distribution centers in Surabaya, East Java, and Bali.
This expansion is part of the company’s strategic initiative to strengthen building materials distribution in Eastern Indonesia while reinforcing its national network and contributing to the acceleration of development across the country.
"Equitable development is not only about quality, but also about ensuring equal access for all regions. Through the addition of a distribution center in Surabaya in the near future, we aim to provide a reliable and efficient supply of quality building materials to Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, in addition to East Java," she explained.
Most of the building materials distributed by Batara Group are used in developers’ projects. Its products are widely utilized in high-rise buildings, landed housing developments, industrial facilities, office buildings, hospitals, and other projects, primarily across Greater Jakarta and cities on Java Island such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Surabaya, as well as outside Java in locations including Lampung, Balikpapan, and Makassar.
The company serves both property project and retail segments through modern retail channels such as Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan. Currently, demand from the project segment remains slightly higher.
"Until 2024, our sales were still dominated by projects because we handled major developments such as Paramount Land, Metland, and Ciputra Group. As a result, 65% of our sales came from projects and the remainder from retail. In 2025, the composition could become more balanced because our products are now available through a broader retail network," Reissa concluded.
